Overcoming Testing Jitters

Writer's picture: Robert VigRobert Vig

Sally was feeling nervous because tomorrow was testing day at school. She didn't like taking tests because she always worried about getting the answers wrong. Her best friend, Tommy, noticed that Sally was looking a little worried. "Don't worry, Sally," Tommy said with a smile. "Testing is just a way for our teachers to see how much we've learned. Just do your best and that's all anyone can ask for." Sally felt a little better after talking to Tommy. She went home and studied her spelling words and math problems one more time before going to bed. The next day, Sally walked into the classroom feeling a little nervous but also prepared. She knew that she had studied and was ready to show what she knew. As she sat down at her desk and started the test, Sally remembered Tommy's words. She took a deep breath and started answering the questions. Before she knew it, the test was over. Sally handed in her test and waited anxiously for the results. When the teacher returned the test papers, Sally was surprised to see that she had done really well. She had answered every question correctly! Sally couldn't believe it. She was so happy that all of her studying had paid off. She went out to recess and told Tommy the good news. They both jumped up and down with excitement. From that day on, Sally realized that testing wasn't so scary after all. It was just a way to show what she had learned. And with a little bit of studying and a lot of determination, she knew she could do anything she set her mind to.
